The Catch - Short Film Enters Festival Circuit
Spending time in the Spanish Canary Islands has been a creative blessing. While we wait for Erena’s American visa to process I wrote and directed a new short film. It was all a grand experiment to see what the new “cinematic” mode could do on the iPhone. Quite a lot it turns out.
We created a 15 minute short film about a sad-sack loser (played by me) who is unlucky in love, and ultimately finds the perfect match in the most unusual of places. Or, as the logline puts it: “After losing all his money on a dating service, a lonely man goes fishing for trouble in the deep end of the dating pool.”
I wrote and produced the film with my wife, Erena, over several weeks in June. And then we had a marathon shoot and edit session in July. The aim was to enter it into Jane Campion’s A Wave in The Ocean fellowship in New Zealand. We hit that deadline and were so chuffed with how the experimental film turned out, it has since been entered into Sundance, Slamdance, and Filmquest as well.
I’m currently not able to share the film with you, as we have to wait for the premiere at several of the festivals, but until then, here are several screenshots:
