Last Surrender - The Novel

Work has begun on developing the screenplay, THE LAST SURRENDER, into a novel. I am currently in talks with publishing companies around New Zealand to take this story off the desks of producers and put it into the hands of fans. The writing has been going strong and I’m about a third of the way through the novel. It’s interesting how much more creative freedom you have in fiction writing versus screenwriting. It’s liberating to be unbound by the harsh rules and limitations of writing a script.

Currently, I’m aiming for a first draft to be complete by end of February and ready for submission to editors by early June, 2022.

LOGLINE

On a remote island, lost in the Pacific, the last remaining Japanese Soldier from WWII awaits word that the war is over. When a young Maori boy runs away from an abusive home, he sets sail on a raft that gets shipwrecked on the same island. Together the two form an uneasy friendship, and the boy learns the value of family and forgiveness from the soldier who never had either.
