MASTERCHEF LAUNCH
Can’t Stand the Heat?
MasterChef had lived on TVNZ for several years before it migrated over to TV3. We needed to introduce a new presenter, and remind people why they found the food and the show interesting in the first place. By combining live action presenters with hyper stylised slow motion footage I was able to bring back some of the intrigue and mystery to cooking. Here are the initial boards:
Speed Test
The challenge with this spot was in seamlessly combining three different elements with VFX. The Phantom camera’s slow motion shots, with the live action talent shots and the flying food elements. In order to do that we had to do a lot of pre-vis and run quite a few tests to see what we would need the phantom camera to do. Here is a short clip of test footage shot with the ultra high speed camera:
Final Spot
The VFX team did an amazing job of bringing this one over the line. There were many composite effects that had to be worked through, and they brought them all together very well. Here is the final spot as well as a Behind the Scenes Video of the shoot. You’ll see me making random cameos occasionally, but most times my nose was buried in the playback monitors.
